“When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul.” Ps 94:19
ISRAELIS FACE MAJOR PRICE HIKES: Israelis on Wednesday saw the prices of basic state goods go up by one percent following an increase of sales tax to 16.5%. That means the price of bread, salt and other common staple goods has increased by an amount that will greatly impact the country's poorer sectors of society. The price of fuel in Israel also rose by 20 cents per gallon overnight. Additionally, Israel's Water Authority is working hard to push a bill through the Knesset that will significantly increase the cost of water. The increase will see Israelis pay 250% more for every cubic meter of water over the permitted monthly amount. Consumer groups are worried the new taxes will also result in local businesses hiking up their prices. (Israel Today) Please continue to pray for Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse teams as they persevere to faithfully assist entire households suffering from poverty, the elderly and others in need in Israel.
EU STATES MAY RECALL IRAN ENVOYS AFTER UK EMBASSY ARRESTS: Iran's standoff with the West escalated with the European Union considering pulling out all 27 of its ambassadors in retaliation for the recent detentions of several local employees of the British Embassy in Tehran. The arrests last week ratcheted up tensions over Iran's bloody crackdown on opposition protesters who disputed the results of last month's presidential election. In a further sign of deteriorating ties, Iran said Wednesday the EU had disqualified itself from talks over Tehran’s nuclear program because of its "interference" in the post-election unrest. Iran accuses the EU of supporting the anti-government rallies. (Ha’aretz)
US CAN’T GET ARABS TO COMMIT TO NORMAL ISRAEL TIES: The US administration has not been successful in securing commitments from Arab countries to take steps toward normalizing relations with Israel, a senior source in Jerusalem said Wednesday. US President Obama's recent meeting with King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia did not produce a commitment to encourage the other Arab states to begin normalization. "In such a situation, the Americans can't continue demanding gestures only from Israel, such as the insistence that Israel freeze settlement construction," the source said. In response, a senior White House official said talks with the Arab states are continuing with the aim of obtaining a commitment to make gestures toward the Jewish state, and there is still hope for progress. (Ha’aretz) “Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” Amos 3:3
WILL OBAMA TAKE JERUSALEM FROM THE JEWS?: The Center for American Progress, an American think tank which has served as a source for several of the Obama administration’s policies, issued a recent report recommending control of Jerusalem be taken away from Israel. Operating with the premise that the Old City of Jerusalem is the central problem in the peace process, the report discusses various options for a third-party entity that would replace Israel as its administrator. A liberal political policy research and advocacy organization, the Center for American Progress’s, reports have frequently stated the thinking of the Obama Administration. The organization rightly predicted Obama’s Cairo speech to the Muslim world and his attempts to re-establish diplomatic relations with Iran. (INN) “The Lord foils the plans of the nations, He thwarts the purposes of the peoples. But the plans of the Lord stand firm forever, the purposes of His heart through all generations.” Ps 33: 10-11
CARGO BOAT ATTEMPTING ILLEGAL ENTRY INTO GAZAN WATERS INTERCEPTED: An Israel Navy force intercepted, boarded, and took control of the cargo boat “Arion” this week, which was illegally attempting to enter the Gaza Strip. The Israeli Navy contacted the boat while at sea, but it disregarded all warnings. It then entered Gazan coastal waters and was diverted to the Israeli port of Ashdod. An Israel Defense spokesman stressed that any organization wishing to transfer humanitarian aid to Gaza must do so legally via established crossings between Israel and Gaza with prior coordination. (Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs)
ROME GIVES HONORARY CITIZENSHIP TO GILAD SHALIT: Rome has given honorary citizenship to Gilad Shalit, the Israeli soldier kidnapped by Hamas terrorists three years ago and who still remains in capitivity. Shalit's father, Noam Shalit, received the honor at a city hall ceremony Wednesday. The city council voted to give Shalit honorary citizenship to coincide with the third anniversary of his capture by terrorists in a cross-border raid from Gaza into Israel. (AP) “You will increase my honor and comfort me once again.” Ps 71:21
LAST REMAINING US JEWISH REPUBLICAN SENATOR LOSES SEAT: The defeat of incumbent Norm Coleman in the drawn-out Minnesota Senate race leaves US Republicans without a Jewish senator for the first time in half a century. Coleman's departure comes two months after the Republicans' other Jewish member, Arlen Specter, switched parties to become a Democrat. (AP)
INDIA: FIRST CONVICTION FOR SECTARIAN ATTACKS: An Indian court has handed down its first sentence following a series of attacks on Christians in an eastern state last year. The first person convicted has been jailed for two years. Some 800 cases have been filed in courts in connection with anti-Christian assaults that broke out in Kandhamal last year after the murder of a Hindu religious leader. Hindus blamed Christians for the leader’s death and rampaged through predominantly Christian neighborhoods, ransacking shops and torching houses. About 38 people, many of them Christians, were killed in that violence. (CNN)
ISRAEL UNVEILS HUGE MOSAIC FROM EARLY CHRISTIAN TIMES: A detailed mosaic scene of two fish was viewed by the public last weekend after it was unveiled in Lod for only the second time since its discovery. The 600-square-foot 1,700-year-old Roman floor mosaic is made up of more than two million small stones and covered with detailed pictures and geometric shapes.. The Israel Antiquities agency is presently lacking funds to properly protect it for ongoing public display. (Fox News)
RESEARCHERS DISCOVER SELF-WATERING PLANT IN ISRAEL: Called the world’s first “self-watering” plant, the Desert Rhubarb discovered in Israel’s Negev desert holds 16 times more water than other regional foliage and can water itself. Researchers from the University of Haifa said the plant’s meter-wide giant leaves are covered in microscopic streams and ridges which funnel and channel water, as well as prevent evaporation. This enables it to harvest 16 times the amount of water than otherwise expected for a plant in this region. (INN) “He brought streams out of a rocky crag and made water flow down like rivers.” Ps 78:16
PACK TO SCHOOL: Vision for Israel & The Joseph Storehouse assemble backpacks containing essential materials and supplies to assist poor children each school year. As we prepare to provide thousands of needy youngsters with school bags and supplies for September 2009, we realize there are not enough collected funds to cover the total cost of this year’s project. Meeting the needs of Israel’s children is a cause close to God's heart and we trust Him to bring in the lacking finances. Please remember that our treasures are stored in heaven and help us to bless thousands of poverty stricken Israeli children this coming school year.

Vision for Israel
JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE
Prayer Letter – September 20, 2007
JNN NEWS, P.O. Box 7411, Jerusalem 91073, Israel
"If My people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek My face
and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and
will heal their land."2 Chronicles 7:14
YOM KIPPUR: The Day of Atonement , (Yom Kippur) , is considered to be the holiest day on the Jewish calendar. It begins this year , September 21 , at sunset. Both religious and secular Jews take part in a 25 hour total fast , refrain from work and attend synagogue. In Israel no cars move on the streets or highways , and Jewish shops and businesses are entirely shut down. Yom Kippur is a time set aside to afflict the soul and to confess and turn away from the sins of the past year. Repentance is taken seriously in hopes of avoiding God's judgment and finding one’s name written into God's Book of Life. Many hours are spent in the synagogue and in prayer. Services end at nightfall with a long blast on the shofar and are followed by a festive meal.
ISRAEL AIR STRIKE IN SYRIA SHROUDED IN SECRECY: Israel and Syria have been reticent concerning details and motives surrounding an Israeli air strike inside Syria , September 6th. According to media reports released September 15th , the mission into Syrian airspace was an Israeli air strike linked to a North Korean shipment of suspected nuclear material delivered to Syria shortly before the attack. The ship arrived September 3rd in the Syrian port of Tartus . Three days later the IAF allegedly bombed an "agricultural research center" inside Syria , which Israel believed to be a nuclear facility front used by the Syrians to extract uranium from phosphates. Further details said Israel had gathered satellite imagery showing possible North Korean cooperation with Syria on a nuclear facility. ( J.Post) "The Lord foils the plans of the nations; He thwarts the purposes of the peoples." Psalm 33:10
SYRIAN 'SURPRISE' FOR ISRAEL: Following news that the Israel Air Force carried out an air strike against a North Korean nuclear shipment to Syria , a UK daily newspaper quoted Israeli officials as saying Syria had been planning a "devastating surprise" for Israel. Preparation for the strike began shortly after Meir Dagan , Chief of the Mossad Intelligence Agency , presented PM Ehud Olmert late spring with evidence that Syria was seeking to buy a nuclear device from North Korea . Dagan feared the device could be installed on Scud-C missiles. "This was to be a devastating Syrian surprise for Israel , " said one official. "We've known for a long time Syria has deadly chemical warheads on its Scuds, but Israel can't live with a nuclear warhead." (Haaretz)
AS MANY AS EIGHT ISRAELI AIRCRAFT INVOLVED IN SYRIAN STRIKE: The UK Observer said Israel 's strike on Syria involved as many as eight aircraft. Reportedly , the force included F-15s and F-16s equipped with Maverick missiles and 500 pound bombs. Flying among the warplanes at great height was an electronic intelligence gathering aircraft. According to the report , an IAF commando team that had arrived on the ground days earlier directed laser beams at the target for the jets. Syria 's ambassador to Washington has denied reports an Israel Air Force strike on his country targeted a nuclear project being undertaken with the cooperation of North Korea . ( UK Observer) "As when a thirsty man dreams he is drinking, but awakens faint with his thirst unquenched, so will it be with the hordes of nations that fight against Mount Zion." Isaiah 29:8
EX-UN ENVOY: IAF ACTION IN SYRIA IS 'MESSAGE TO IRAN' OVER NUKES: Former UN ambassador , John Bolton , said on Sunday Israel's military operation inside Syria earlier this month should be regarded as a 'clear message to Iran' that its nuclear efforts will not be ignored by the international community. "I think it would be unusual for Israel to conduct a military operation inside Syria other than for a very high value target , and certainly a Syrian effort in the nuclear weapons area would qualify , " said Bolton . (Haaretz)
IRAN SAYS 600 MISSILES POINTED AT ISRAEL : Six hundred Iranian Shihab-3 missiles are pointed at targets throughout Israel , and will be launched if either Iran or Syria are attacked , an Iranian website affiliated with the regime stated on Monday. According to the report , dozens of locations throughout Iraq , which are being used by the US Army , have also been targeted. The Shihab missile has a range of 1 , 300 km , and can reach anywhere in Israel . ( J.Post) "Listen, all you distant lands. Prepare for battle, and be shattered! Prepare for battle, and be shattered!" Isaiah 8:9
GROWING NEO-NAZI ATTACKS IN ISRAEL : Neo-Nazis attacked a 70-year-old woman who was walking on the bridge in Haifa Monday morning. The gang members beat her and shouted out "Heil Hitler , " in the latest of a series of Nazi attacks that began with the arrest of a Nazi gang in Petach Tikva 10 days ago. ( INN ) "Prepare chains, because the land is full of bloodshed..." Ezekiel 7:23
RABBIS BAN JEWISH PARTICIPATION IN ICEJ CONFERENCE: The Chief Rabbinate of Israel has issued a ruling welcoming the Christians arriving for the annual Feast of Tabernacles conference while banning Jews from participating. The event draws tens of thousands of Christians from around the world for a week of teaching , worship , and prayer , and culminates with a march through the streets of Jerusalem . The Rabbis' Decision read as follows: A. [We] bless the [Christian] tourists who will arrive in our Holy Land for the upcoming holidays...B. It is forbidden for any Jew to take part in the gatherings in the Binyanei HaUmah Jerusalem Convention Center and in the marches taking place during the Sukkot holiday , because the information we have states that some of the bodies gathering there are active , inter alia , in attempting to convert us from our faith. "One who fears for his soul will stay far away." ( INN ) "Therefore, in the present case I advise you: Leave these men alone! Let them go! For if their purpose or activity is of human origin, it will fail. But if it is from God, you will not be able to stop these men; you will only find yourselves fighting against God" Acts 5:38-39
ISRAELI ASTROPHYSICISTS HELP FIND OLDEST KNOWN PLANET: Israeli astrophysicists helped discover and are investigating the oldest known planet located some 4 , 500 light years outside our solar system. The V391b Pegasi Pegasi planet revolves around a pulsating star that is shrinking from its red giant status to a white dwarf. Thus far scientists have only been able to theorize about the distant future of earth and other planets when their suns die out , but the Pegasi discovery will now enable astrophysicists to study a planet's characteristics as its sun reaches its demise. ( J.Post) "He speaks to the sun and it does not shine; He seals off the light of the stars." Job 9:7

"The violence of the wicked will drag them away for they refuse to do what is right." Proverbs: 21:7
FATAH-HAMAS AGREEMENT COMPLICATES RICE'S MIDEAST TRIP: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice deems the new Palestinian power-sharing government that includes Hamas to be a complicating factor in this week's peace mission in Jerusalem. The U.S. recognizes that while Abbas is a mainstream leader, Hamas is an extremist group that must be isolated. Rice said the new government falls short of standards that would allow a resumption of international aid, as did the Hamas led government before it. The US and Israel agreed ahead of a three-way meeting with the Palestinians to shun any new Palestinian government that does not renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept existing peace agreements. (Haaretz/J.Post)
HAMAS: 'WE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE ISRAEL OR STOP VIOLENCE : Hamas spokesman, Mushir Al-Masri, has stated that the newly formed Hamas-Fatah unity government will neither recognize Israel nor abandon terror. Al-Masari further said that Hamas before the Mecca agreement and Hamas after the Mecca agreement are exactly the same. (Daily Alert) "Pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence." Psalm 73:6
EU NOT READY TO RESUME AID TO PALESTINIAN GOVERNMENT: The EU confirmed it will not resume aid to the Palestinian government regardless of the unity accord signed between Fatah and Hamas. Israel gladly received the EU's affirmation that it will continue with economic boycotts levied on the Palestinian government since the terrorist group was voted into power last March. (Arutz-7) "The trouble he causes recoils on himself..." Psalm 7:16
CONGRESS FREEZES $86m MEANT FOR ABBAS: Congress has frozen $86 million in proposed security assistance to Mahmoud Abbas. The grant had been designated to train soldiers loyal to Abbas to fight Hamas. However, questions as to how the funds will be used have arisen in light of the Fatah-Hamas unity agreement. A U.S. diplomat, late last week, also informed the PA Chairman that the U.S. will shun any members of a future Hamas-Fatah coalition. (J.Post) "No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth." Psalm 58:2
PALESTINIAN TERRORISM INCREASES, AIDED BY HIZBALLAH: Palestinian terrorist violence in Israel has increased following the Fatah-Hamas agreement and Israel's Rambam (Mughabi) excavations. Twelve people have been wounded in serious rock-throwing incidents since Feb.11th. Those arrested in recent IDF round-ups are disclosing close ties to Hizballah terrorists in Lebanon. They say Hizballah is gathering data on Israel's security and compiling information on Israel's electricity and energy facilities. Hizballah is funded, supported, and supervised by Iran as well as Syria. (Arutz-7/IHC News) "Prepare chains, because the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of violence." Ezekiel 7:23
EU: IRANIAN BOMB UNSTOPPABLE: The European Union days ago circulated a report to the EU's 27 national governments saying that Iran's nuclear bomb is now unstoppable. The document states that the Iranian nuclear program has not been affected by diplomatic pressure. It further warns that the problems with Iran cannot be resolved through economic sanctions alone. (J. Post)
EGYPT: 'ONLY NUCLEAR BOMB WILL WORK WITH ISRAEL': Mohammed el-Katatny of Egypt's National Democratic Party said recently that nothing will work with Israel except for a nuclear bomb that wipes it out of existence. The statement came in response to Israel's excavations near the Al-Aqsa Mosqe in Jerusalem. The work has inflamed angry reactions though out the Arab world including threats of jihad and a third intifada. (Haaretz) "Violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked." Proverbs 10:11
AL-QAIDA THREATENS HITTING US OIL FLOW: An al-Qaida terrorist faction, late last week, posted an article on the Internet urging Islamic militants to attack oil facilities world wide, including those in Canada, Mexico and Venezuela. The stated purpose is to stop the flow of oil to the U.S. Al-Qaida said in its monthly magazine that cutting oil supplies to the U.S. would help end the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. (J.Post)
EMPLOYMENT SERVICE: ISRAELIS CAN REPLACE ALL FOREIGN WORKERS: Nearly 200,000 Israelis are currently registered as unemployed with the National Employment Service, and could potentially replace foreign workers in construction, agriculture, industry, restaurants, and care for the elderly. Service's Director General, Esther Dominisini, told the Knesset last week that she has formulated a plan to gradually replace the 85,000 foreign workers currently legally employed in Israel. The government also decided to reduce the number of permits issued to foreign workers in agriculture and care for the elderly. (Haaretz)
ANCIENT DATE SEED GROWS IN ISRAEL: Methuselah is the name of a young sapling, which was germinated from a 2,000-year-old date seed found at Masada. Following discovery, it was placed in isolation for two years to protect it from modern diseases and then planted. Last week Methuselah underwent chronological testing, which confirmed the tree grew from a seed that lived when Romans ruled the land. Scientists believed a new species of date that once flourished in Judea can be developed from the mature tree. (Haaretz) "There is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail." Job 14:7

Vision for Israel Update
JERUSALEM-ON-THE-LINE
Prayer Letter – January 16, 2007
JNN NEWS, P.O. Box 7411, Jerusalem 91073, Israel
"You have exalted my horn like that of a wild ox; fine oils have been poured upon me. My eyes have seen the defeat of my adversaries..." Psalm 92:10,11
IDF: CHANCE OF REGIONAL CONFLICT IN 2007 HIGH: The IDF's assessment for 2007 includes a high chance of a new regional conflict that may include Lebanon , Syria , the Palestinian Authority, Iran , or even Egypt . "For the first time in many years, there is no positive window of opportunity in the Middle East ," senior officers said last week. "We must come to terms with this and prepare accordingly," they warned. (Arutz-7) "When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul." Psalm 94:11
LIBERMAN TO RICE: 'IDF RETURN TO GAZA UNAVOIDABLE': U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice heard unwelcome news from Strategic Affairs Minister Avigdor Lieberman Saturday night. Liberman said the IDF's return to Gaza is inevitable. If the IDF is forced into such an action this time, Lieberman said, the IDF would not pull out until the deployment of 30,000 NATO troops to ensure the area remains peaceful and quiet. (Arutz-7) "I will send fire upon the walls of Gaza that will consume her fortresses." Amos 1: 7
HIZBALLAH WIDENS ANTI-GOVERNMENT CAMPAIGN IN LEBANON: Hizballah and its allies widened their campaign last week to force the Lebanese government's resignation, backing what they vowed would be a series of daily protests that will include the blocking of main intersections, the airport and other vital installations so as to "paralyze life in Lebanon." So far, PM Fouad Saniora has refused to resign. But by freezing the government, Hizballah has staunched what it saw as growing U.S. influence. It has also delayed the convening of an international court to try suspects in the 2005 slaying of former prime minister Rafiq al-Hariri, an assassination that government supporters blame on Syria . ( Washington Post/Arutz-7) "Though the wicked spring up like grass... they will be destroyed." Psalm 92: 7,8
OLMERT: UNILATERALISM HAS BEEN A FAILURE: In an interview with a Chinese news agency last week, PM Ehud Olmert expressed his disappointment with the results of Israel 's two unilateral withdrawals. He said that the violence in both Lebanon and Gaza convinced him that there is no point in any future unilateral moves of this kind. "We pulled out of Lebanon unilaterally, and see what happened. We pulled out of the Gaza Strip completely, to the international border, and every day they are firing Kassam rockets at Israelis." Olmert's conclusion was that under the existing circumstances, it would be more practical to achieve a two-state solution through negotiations rather than withdrawal. (Ha'aretz)
IDF: 'TERRORISTS ALWAYS RETURN TO TERROR': Palestinians released in prisoner exchanges "always returned to terrorism," a high-ranking officer warned Sunday, ahead of a planned swap for kidnaped Cpl. Gilad Shalit. Palestinian Authority security forces in the West Bank are "infected with terrorist elements," he added. The officer said there had been a major increase in Palestinian terrorist activity in the West Bank in 2006, and warned of an outbreak of a new intifada. ( J.Post) "They eat the bread of wickedness and drink the wine of violence." Proverbs 4:17
ISRAELIS BELIEVE PALESTINIANS WANT TO DESTROY ISRAEL: According to a poll taken last month, 69.5% of Israeli Jews said that the Palestinians would destroy the State of Israel if they could. 53% oppose evacuating most of the Jewish settlements in the territories for a full peace agreement, while only 34% favor it. 68% agree that even dismantling most settlements would not suffice for the Palestinians to sign a full peace agreement with Israel . (Haaretz) "All day long my enemies taunt me; those who rail against me use my name as a curse." Psalm 102:8
ABBAS TELLS RALLY TO USE WEAPONS AGAINST ISRAEL: Palestinian Authority chairman Mahmoud Abbas, whom the US , Israel and most media have labeled as a moderate, told supporters in Ramallah last week that it is legitimate "to turn rifles against the occupation." He added that he will not compromise on previously stated demands that a new Arab state include the right of millions of Arabs abroad to live in Israel . (Arutz-7)
IRAN POURING FUNDS INTO PALESTINIAN TERRORIST GROUP: After Iran's success in gaining influence over Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and parts of Fatah, Tehran is now seeking to buy the support of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine. The Iranians have begun to send tens of thousands of dollars each month to the secular group that is considered an ally of Mahmoud Abbas, in an attempt to influence its policies. (Daily Alert)
MAJORITY OF ISRAELIS THINK THEIR LEADERSHIP IS CORRUPT: According to a Dahaf Institute survey, 84 percent of Israelis believe their leaders are tainted by corruption. Furthermore, 94% believe that corruption weakens the state; and 71% believe that corrupt leaders cause the public to be corrupt. (Haaretz/J.Post) Prayer is needed that in the next election honesty in government will be a main issue.
ISRAELI POPULATION INCREASES IN WEST BANK IN 2006: According to the Interior Ministry, there were 268,379 Israelis living in the West Bank at the end of 2006, compared with 253,748 in 2005, a 5.8% increase. (Haaretz) "But he lifted the needy out of their affliction and increased their families like flocks." Psalm 107:41
FOREIGN INVESTMENT IN ISRAEL TRIPLED IN THREE YEARS: Foreign investment in Israel reached an all-time high of $21.1 billion in 2006, up from $9.9 billion in 2005 and $7.2 billion in 2004, the Bank of Israel reported last week. (Globes)
Succot 2007: Plan early to join us, September 25 - October 7, for the 7th year anniversary of the Succot Celebration and 40 years of a united Jerusalem. This is going to be a very special year for Israel. Our coming Succot event will be a combination of teaching and worship and touring the Land during the one major Feast that has not yet been fulfilled by Yeshua.
