Prayer Letter – February 20, 2007

"The violence of the wicked will drag them away for they refuse to do what is right." Proverbs: 21:7

FATAH-HAMAS AGREEMENT COMPLICATES RICE'S MIDEAST TRIP: Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice deems the new Palestinian power-sharing government that includes Hamas to be a complicating factor in this week's peace mission in Jerusalem. The U.S. recognizes that while Abbas is a mainstream leader, Hamas is an extremist group that must be isolated. Rice said the new government falls short of standards that would allow a resumption of international aid, as did the Hamas led government before it. The US and Israel agreed ahead of a three-way meeting with the Palestinians to shun any new Palestinian government that does not renounce violence, recognize Israel and accept existing peace agreements. (Haaretz/J.Post)

HAMAS: 'WE WILL NOT RECOGNIZE
ISRAEL OR STOP VIOLENCE : Hamas spokesman, Mushir Al-Masri, has stated that the newly formed Hamas-Fatah unity government will neither recognize Israel nor abandon terror. Al-Masari further said that Hamas before the Mecca agreement and Hamas after the Mecca agreement are exactly the same. (Daily Alert) "Pride is their necklace; they clothe themselves with violence." Psalm 73:6

EU NOT READY TO RESUME AID TO PALESTINIAN GOVERNMENT:
The EU confirmed it will not resume aid to the Palestinian government regardless of the unity accord signed between Fatah and Hamas.
Israel gladly received the EU's affirmation that it will continue with economic boycotts levied on the Palestinian government since the terrorist group was voted into power last March. (Arutz-7) "The trouble he causes recoils on himself..." Psalm 7:16

CONGRESS FREEZES $86m MEANT FOR ABBAS:
Congress has frozen $86 million in proposed security assistance to Mahmoud Abbas. The grant had been designated to train soldiers loyal to Abbas to fight Hamas. However, questions as to how the funds will be used have arisen in light of the Fatah-Hamas unity agreement. A
U.S. diplomat, late last week, also informed the PA Chairman that the U.S. will shun any members of a future Hamas-Fatah coalition. (J.Post) "No, in your heart you devise injustice, and your hands mete out violence on the earth." Psalm 58:2

PALESTINIAN TERRORISM INCREASES, AIDED BY HIZBALLAH:
Palestinian terrorist violence in
Israel has increased following the Fatah-Hamas agreement and Israel's Rambam (Mughabi) excavations. Twelve people have been wounded in serious rock-throwing incidents since Feb.11th. Those arrested in recent IDF round-ups are disclosing close ties to Hizballah terrorists in Lebanon. They say Hizballah is gathering data on Israel's security and compiling information on Israel's electricity and energy facilities. Hizballah is funded, supported, and supervised by Iran as well as Syria. (Arutz-7/IHC News) "Prepare chains, because the land is full of bloodshed and the city is full of violence." Ezekiel 7:23

EU: IRANIAN BOMB UNSTOPPABLE: The European Union days ago circulated a report to the EU's 27 national governments saying that Iran's nuclear bomb is now unstoppable. The document states that the Iranian nuclear program has not been affected by diplomatic pressure. It further warns that the problems with
Iran cannot be resolved through economic sanctions alone. (J. Post)

EGYPT: 'ONLY NUCLEAR BOMB WILL WORK WITH ISRAEL': Mohammed el-Katatny of Egypt's National Democratic Party said recently that nothing will work with Israel except for a nuclear bomb that wipes it out of existence. The statement came in response to Israel's excavations near the Al-Aqsa Mosqe in Jerusalem. The work has inflamed angry reactions though out the Arab world including threats of jihad and a third intifada. (Haaretz) "Violence overwhelms the mouth of the wicked." Proverbs 10:11

AL-QAIDA THREATENS HITTING US OIL FLOW: An al-Qaida terrorist faction, late last week, posted an article on the Internet urging Islamic militants to attack oil facilities world wide, including those in Canada, Mexico and Venezuela. The stated purpose is to stop the flow of oil to the
U.S. Al-Qaida said in its monthly magazine that cutting oil supplies to the U.S. would help end the American occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan. (J.Post)

EMPLOYMENT SERVICE: ISRAELIS CAN REPLACE ALL FOREIGN WORKERS:
Nearly 200,000 Israelis are currently registered as unemployed with the National Employment Service, and could potentially replace foreign workers in construction, agriculture, industry, restaurants, and care for the elderly. Service's Director General, Esther Dominisini, told the Knesset last week that she has formulated a plan to gradually replace the 85,000 foreign workers currently legally employed in
Israel. The government also decided to reduce the number of permits issued to foreign workers in agriculture and care for the elderly. (Haaretz)

ANCIENT DATE SEED GROWS IN
ISRAEL: Methuselah is the name of a young sapling, which was germinated from a 2,000-year-old date seed found at Masada. Following discovery, it was placed in isolation for two years to protect it from modern diseases and then planted. Last week Methuselah underwent chronological testing, which confirmed the tree grew from a seed that lived when Romans ruled the land. Scientists believed a new species of date that once flourished in Judea can be developed from the mature tree. (Haaretz) "There is hope for a tree: If it is cut down, it will sprout again, and its new shoots will not fail." Job 14:7
